HI Hirntot community, My name is FiniteStataMachine and I can't shoot / hit anybody :wall: . I could put it down to i'm just an old git and my reactions are slowing down. But I very much hope that isn't the case and hoping somebody can solve my mystery. I used to hit around 40ish acc on average and that was good enough for me to have a fair game. These days as mentioned in my title, I hit 28% if I'm really lucky!
Nothing more frustrating lining up a shot, hitting enemy in the back, watching my bullets hit, hearing my bullets hit, watching the enemy jump and turn round in shock as they didn't know I'm there and shoot me DEAD..

here is my hardware set up :-

Operating System
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i5 4670 @ 3.40GHz 38 °C
Haswell 22nm Technology
RAM

Motherboard
MSI H81M-P33 (MS-7817) (SOCKET 0) 53 °C
Graphics

Optical Drives
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224DB ATA Device

Realtek High Definition Audio

Mouse Rat-3 gaming mouse set to 900dpi with ingame sens set to 1

I'm using the Harlekin ET Installer

I have no problem with FPS being capped at 125 and i don't see any dips while playing.

Everything seems fine so far, my mouse feels OK and my hardware appears to perform OK.

I don't have a fancy config and never needed one tbh ( maybe it's time i do? ).

i do have windows acceleration off using MarkC acceleration fix

and finally I just run a trace route to hirntot server :

I changed from a 2ms display to a 5ms (maybe it was 8ms... can't remember) and my accuracy dropped by around the same amount and was struggling to hit a wall... Switched back to the 2ms and accuracy was back to normal.

You got a new monitor, matey?

maybe its vsync or tripple buffering.

Cheers for the suggestions! Madda, thanks for the link, I did try Dinput and there wasn't any change unfortunately, also tripple buffering and vsync are both set to off. Now Hoochi the frag beast got me pointing in the right direction though.

I checked out my samsung spec and was alarmed to see I bought a heap of %^$. Firstly this screen uses some fancy algorithms to sync my screen up, and make it " appear " silky smooth. 50Hz refresh natively but manages 100Hz using " clear motion technology ". Also the response time which you pointed out Hooch, its at 5ms, I thought it was 2ms. :( I assume both those factors are the cause.

Today I will plugging in my old 19" crappy monitor and seeing if I can achieve something close to 40ish acc. If not then sadly I think its my internet provider which I cannot do anything about.
I shall post back after today with my findings, good luck me! :) and thanks for suggestions.

Well I tried yesterday and still hitting around 28% even with the other monitor plugged in. I think my client player position is way off from the authoratitive servers player position and that's to be expected somewhat I guess if packets are getting lost often. Thing that just feels wrong to me is the time I eventually get updated from server of player movement, its already over. From my POV everything is smooth, there's no heavy disconnects or even players warping etc.

An example of this happened clearly for me yesterday when I was playing Braundorf. I was crouched on the rail in anticipation to shoot at the green door where axis come pouring through. Most of our team are waiting for the dyna to be planted etc. In close vicinity. See pic : http://i.imgur.com/oK1Uzz2.jpg ( orange dots represent allies approximate position ). I'm looking and waiting for axis to come through that door.

I wait and BAM dead. The door from my POV didn't even open or even show a player model, absolutely nothing.

Hooch I did mention my screen is 5ms, after doing some more fact finding I get conflicting specs saying it is 2ms. Like I say everything here feels and reacts fine my end.
Any ideas similar experiences etc. i'd like to hear from anybody that can help.

thanks for reading!

Hi everybody, just a little update with some of the problems. Firstly if you ever buy a RAT gaming mouse there is a sensitivity setting on the underside of the mouse, this is displayed with the GUI when you install drivers. Setting the sliders half way, not full ( default ) gave me better control. I also dropped down to 450dpi from 900 to give me a responsive mouse as before it was really sluggish.
So mouse has been half the battle. Still not out of the woods yet though. I also changed monitors over and noticed a 5% increase in accuracy. bullets seemed to hit where I shoot. But I'm still not completely convinced my bigger screen is causing the deficit though. So 1 last ditch attempt to make this bigger screen work :D I changed resolution setting from 1920 x 1080 to 1280 x 1024 it does feel more like it used to, but its going to take a day for me to get used to playing with all these changes. I have buggered up what little aiming skill I had by trying so many different configurations lately.
I shall post back soon with hopefully good news, As much as I don't want to go back to a little screen it appears the only game that needs it is the only game I really play though.

;)

Hi all, I had time to try several monitors and come to the conclusion the big screen I want to use just wont cut it for ET, it does something weird with the display refresh that's causing the aim to be offset from the players actual position. When changing to a 2ms monitor I can gain a small amount of accuracy, this varies from around 2 - 5% . So now I'm up to 33% acc. Still can't hit above that and i'm not sure what else to try to resolve the issue, there is some very minor latency and I think its possibly because of my ISP and coming into my home through copper wire not fibre internet( maybe the extension from the phone socket to the PC and the adaptor attached to it ). I just don't know, guessing is all I can do.

All I can say is that how I used to play and how I play now is not the same game, same feel/responsiveness . So I give up trying and just have to accept ET days are going to be mediocre at best. Sorry I can't give a solution for others that may have trouble with similar problems.

Oh well happy fraggin I guess! :|
